The A flu virus has changed in Italy too

It has been confirmed by the welfare department, also in Italy the A flu virus has changed.

The department reaffirm that the change doesn’t affect the vaccine effects and no opposition to the antiviral drugs has been registered until now.

Last week French authorities pointed out that two people died after a change of the virus similar to that one occurred in Norway. They clarified that it happened to patients without any connection with each other and hospitalized in two different towns.

In Italy “the change has been verified just for a patient until now, he was affected by a serious kind of pneumonia that has been solved thanks to an Ecmo treatment in intensive care. No more patients checked, including people with serious or lethal diseases, suffered the change” said a Welfare department note.

“Referring to the superior Institute of Health’s data, it is good to remember that there is just one case of opposition to oseltamivir, among 160 patients checked until now. It is due to a long treatment for a patient with previous and serious pathologies. It remains an isolated case.”

In Italy the virus has caused 95 victims until now. The region with the biggest number of deaths (27) is the region Campania. Until the 22^nd of November 494.915 people got vaccinated and the doses of vaccine delivered were about four million. Referring to the last official data, during the 47^th week (16-22 of November) the flu cases in Italy were about 680.000, that added to the cases registered weekly from the beginning of the check (19^th of October) are 3.047.000 cases in total.
